Lake Bogoria and Lake Naivasha are beautiful and ecologically significant lakes in Kenya, East Africa. Both lakes are part of the Great Rift Valley, which is known for its stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife, and unique geological features. A safari to these lakes offers a fantastic opportunity to explore the region’s natural wonders and observe a wide variety of wildlife in their natural habitats.

Lake Bogoria:

  1. Location: Lake Bogoria is situated in the Baringo County of Kenya, approximately 25 kilometers south of Lake Baringo and 285 kilometers northwest of Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya.
  2. Geological Phenomenon: One of the main attractions of Lake Bogoria is its hot springs and geysers. The lake is alkaline and home to geothermal activity, which results in hot water springs and geysers shooting water and steam into the air.
  3. Flamingo Spectacle: Lake Bogoria is famous for its massive population of flamingos. The lake’s alkaline waters attract millions of lesser flamingos, creating a spectacular pink-hued scene along its shores.
  4. Wildlife: Apart from flamingos, the lake and its surroundings are home to a variety of wildlife species such as the greater kudu, buffalo, zebras, gazelles, and the rare Rothschild’s giraffe. You may also spot some predators like leopards and hyenas.
  5. Activities: Visitors can enjoy game drives to spot wildlife, birdwatching to see the abundant birdlife, and hikes to explore the geothermal features and hot springs.

Lake Naivasha:

  1. Location: Lake Naivasha is located in Nakuru County, about 90 kilometers northwest of Nairobi, making it easily accessible from the capital.
  2. Flora and Fauna: The lake is surrounded by lush vegetation and acacia woodlands, making it a haven for birdlife and other animals. Over 400 bird species have been recorded here, including African fish eagles, kingfishers, and pelicans.
  3. Hippo Sanctuary: Lake Naivasha is also known for its resident population of hippos. A boat safari on the lake offers an opportunity to observe these massive creatures at close range.
  4. Crescent Island: This small private sanctuary is located on Lake Naivasha and is home to a variety of wildlife, including giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and antelopes. Guided walking safaris on Crescent Island allow you to get remarkably close to the animals.
  5. Boat Trips: Boat trips on the lake provide an excellent chance to spot wildlife and enjoy the serene environment. Some boat tours may take you to Crescent Island or Hippo Point.

Day 1: Nairobi Kenya / Lake Bogoria National

Picked up at the Jomo Kenyatta International airport in Nairobi or from your hotel/residence. drive straight to Lake Bogoria National Park. Lake Bogoria is located South of Lake Baringo and contrasts sharply with Baringo’s green and lush surroundings. It has shores of hot springs, boiling geysers and steam jets.

Lake Bogoria is primarily scenic; birds are plentiful and, at times, when the waters of Lake Nakuru are low, thousands of flamingos make this their home. Arrive for lunch and check in at the Hotel. Thereafter have an afternoon game drive at the Park to return to the Hotel for dinner and overnight

 

Day 2 : Lake Bogoria National Park / Lake Naivasha

Breakfast and then drive to Lake Naivasha. Arrive for lunch and check in at the Lodge/Tented Camp. Thereafter have an afternoon game drive at the Hells Gate National Park.

The Park is a remarkable quarter of the Great Rift Valley. Spectacular scenery including the towering cliffs, water-gouged gorges, stark rock towers, scrub clad volcanoes and belching plumes of geothermal steam make it one of the most atmospheric Parks in Africa.

Also home for African buffalo, zebra, eland, hartebeest, Thomson’s gazelle and baboons are common. The park is also home to klipspringer antelope and Chandler’s mountain reedbuck Prolific birdlife there are over 100 species of birds in the park, including vultures, Verreaux’s Eagles, augur buzzard and swifts. With Optional Boat ride at the crescent island. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge/Tented camp.

 

Day 3 : Lake Naivasha / Nairobi

After breakfast at the Lodge/Camp you will return to Nairobi and dropped off at the airport for your home bound flight or at the city Hotel.
